Osborne's rhetoric about a sunny economy and prosperity for all shows this Tory-Lib Dem government is out of touch with reality.
Speaking in Parliament during Monday's debate on the Chancellor's budget I raised my concerns that this Government isn't working for hard-working families in our town.
I asked whether Rachel Reeves, the Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, "shared my share my anger that despite all this bland talk about the success of the economy and the success of the welfare system when it is actually being destroyed?"
"In our town — and probably in hers — 30% of people working are on low wages. It is women and families with children who are being particularly hard hit."
I've said before that this budget is just window-dressing. It's a budget no-one really believes in because it doesn't touch on some of the big issues. The country still has a tax system where there’s one rule for the rich and another for everyone else. It is not a budget that takes us in the direction we need to go in.
