The fight against the closure of HRI’s A&E continues. Although ours was one of the best-performing departments in the country, the picture for our hospitals looks grim. Huge cuts from central government are beginning to have a very noticeable effect on the NHS. The Tories have been careful to hide these cuts behind their flawed CCG model, which devolves cuts to panels of doctors with no management experience
It’s for this reason that I am working so closely with my brilliant colleagues Paula and Tracy on holding the Government to account. We met earlier this month in my constituency office to review the health situation across Kirklees, and shared our concerns over the future of our hospitals. Last Friday I met the CCG to restate my opposition to their plans. This Thursday Paula and Tracy met Jeremy Hunt to discuss the threat to Dewsbury A&E, and were told there would be no additional funding. Only the government can save the NHS and it shows no sign of being about to do so. That’s why we must keep fighting.
